Teaching English – Volunteer Bali

IMG_0175

The path for children throughout the developing world is undoubtedly found in education. Volunteers in our Teaching English Project make a real improvement in the lives of Balinese children by progressing their English language ability, making it easier for them to further education in the future. This project is all about the kids, but make no mistake, this will be an important learning experience for our volunteers and students alike.

A Day In The Life – Volunteer in Bali

Our volunteers are placed in a variety of different Balinese schools. Most volunteers follow the normal school day routine, though sometimes volunteers are asked to assist and spend time with the teaching staff outside of regular hours. The average day will involve a number of classes where the focus on speaking and listing will be utilized to help the children improve their communicative English abilities. Volunteers work in tandem with Indonesian faculty to make the learning experience as beneficial as possible for the students. Bali Volunteer Tasks & Skills

Volunteers are expected to help teach basic English as a second language (ESL). Helping with the learning of vocabulary is very important for ESL learners and volunteers are encouraged and welcomed to use music, games and other interactive activities to make the learning experience as fun and as beneficial as possible. A friendly, outgoing personality is a plus, as it will help the kids warm up to you.

Assisting in the English education of Balinese children will be the mainstay of your duties as a volunteer, however you may also find yourself asked to helping out in other work at the school. When your students are preparing for exams you may be asked to help out with prep. During exam time, you may be asked to assist in proctoring and grading exams. Basically, volunteers are asked to become a part of the school community and help out in all areas as to where they can be off assistance.

Volunteer in Bali – Making a Difference

By teaching English in Bali your first priority will be to advance your student’s language abilities as much as possible throughout the duration of your project. Although challenging at times, your experience will also be rewarding, and will ultimately enrich the lives of your students. For the children the mere exposure to a western or native speaker of English is of huge benefit, while the progress made through new teaching methods is also a major plus.

The ability to speak and understand English is becoming more and more crucial to the lives of the Balinese, where it seems the entire economy rests on tourism and the foreign influx of money and interest. Anything the children learn in your class will benefit them significantly in years to come.

Not only can you enrich the students’ lives during your volunteer project in Bali, you can also be of assistance to the teachers. For our volunteers, this is an possibility to bring exciting and unique activities in the classroom and exchange thoughts and ideas with Balinese teachers.
